Showing the effect of drugs should only help those that are not self-destructive.
I think that it worked in Italy, as I saw heroin addicts fading away. Clearly those zombie-like individuals have scared off more than one potential new user.

Crime is cool and romanticized.. so, many people deep inside don't really dislike it, and those that do adapt easily.

It would be nice if at least the VIP would not support those things.. as they're looked up by many people.
Though it has to be said that nowadays the VIP seem to overdose with "prescription drugs", so I guess that's more acceptable socially 8P

I suppose that if a certain percentage of those who use illegal drugs were shown the effects of their choices (kind of like that movie, Food, Inc. a percentage of that percentage would likely give up the habit. Since drugs are so addictive I surmise that this would be hard for those who want to quit.

In terms of crime, there are so many social issues or causes that encourages criminal behavior. I say encourages because I have the view that there is a natural tendency in human beings to be selfish and this selfishness can express itself in various ways, some being subtle, and some being overt.

I was doing some tinkering with NerdKits. There's a compiler available for the ATmega168, but I'm not sure if there's any native STL support for it.

Which reminds me, I need to order some parts for the mini-project I'm trying to! 8P

I've been using my own "vector" and smart pointers.. but hopefully C++11 will make me want to use STL again.
Right now I just can't be bothered with the sad verbosity of iterators and with vector<> fighting against smart pointers 8P

I haven't used JSON at all, but one of my colleagues brought it up recently. It's definitely easier on the eyes that XML; I'll probably use JSON for my own projects if/when the need arises. Not too much time to develop my own. (x_x)

P.S.
I'm no fan of MONSTER libraries myself. Though I am planning on using STLport. 8P

Thanks for the hint.. I've heard about it before.. but I've been developing my own alternative before that.
It started with something simpler and it then evolved.
It's served me well so far, and I like how I'm free to extend it, though it would be interesting to see more about JSON, especially if its implementation is simple and doesn't depent on monster libraries or stuff such as boost ;)

Coffee is something that you consume, a game is something that you have to keep.

It's the same as when making a present.. it's easy to pick a box of chocolates, it's harder to pick something that one will have to actually use every day.

Of course one doesn't have to play a game every day, but it's not a consumable product. It's an icon on your device, something that you bought to keep.

..unless it's a freemium game, where one may spend tons of money buying tokens to play the game without feeling like he/she ever bought something 8)

I initially set the price "high" because I also didn't want to succumb to the $0.99 trend. After all, FF was Tier 1 and initially didn't even have online leaderboards, then why shouldn't FC be at least Tier 2 (1.99) ?
But unless you're known before or well publicized at the release.. it's hard to compete for more than 0.99.

Also more and more games rely on in-app purchase and they may as well be free, 0.99 or even pirated (!) because the real revenue stream is a different one. And I suspect that as much as many people realize that they aren't getting a better deal with freemium (free + in-app), they still instinctively go for it.
This is the same reason why games are $0.99 rather than $1 ..perception of savings, leading into more spending !

I was thinking recently how the whole $0.99 could actually be hurting things on the iOS market. People come to expect super-high quality stuff for that price ... which isn't bad ... if and only if it didn't cost and arm and a leg to make the super-high quality app.

I'm not sure if there's any real correlation to this, but it seems that the non $0.99 games that do well are titles that are already well known and were available on other platforms years before they came to iOS ... so naturally people wanting the same (or similar) experience wouldn't mind paying "extra" for it ... but then again, the price on iOS is probably a lot less than what they paid for it on the other platform(s).

Grazie dei consigli. IndieVault lo frequento e penso di riuscire a strappare un articolo di news.

Gli altri non li conosco (anche se magari ci sono passato). E forse e' il caso di contattarli.

In ogni caso, nel post mi riferivo piu' che altro a siti quali TouchArcade, SlideToPlay, 148Apps, etc.

Quelli sono siti che spingono molto le vendite.. ma ottenere copertura con loro e' una bella fatica.

Paradossalmente, credo che sia piu' facile essere featurati su iTunes dalla Apple che non essere recensiti in molti di quei siti.. sigh sigh !
